Freezer Repair — Book a Visit Today
We repair freezers that stopped cooling, and we can usually tell you why on the first visit. Most failures land in a few families: a frosted-over evaporator coil, a tired defrost heater or thermostat, a condenser fan that quit spinning, a limp door gasket, or a compressor and sealed system that took a hit during a storm-season power surge. Freezers fail quiet. No alarm, no bang, just softening ice cream and a smell you catch two days later. Our visit starts with temperatures at the coldest spot, then airflow, then electrical readings. We show you what we find and explain the choice in plain words before anything gets replaced. Chest models, uprights, garage units, and the freezer half of a side-by-side all get the same look. Call us and tell us what you're seeing.

The freezer symptoms we hear most
- "Everything's soft but the light comes on" Failed compressor, a sealed-system leak, or a stuck start relay. The cabinet has power and no cooling.
- "There's a wall of ice on the back panel" Defrost failure. The heater, thermostat, bi-metal, or control board isn't running the defrost cycle.
- "It runs and runs and never shuts off" Dirty condenser coils, a weak door seal, or a thermostat or sensor reading the wrong temperature.
- "Water's pooling on the floor under it" Clogged defrost drain, or a frozen drain tube backing up and spilling past the cabinet.
- "It buzzes hard then goes silent" Overload protector cycling, a seized compressor, or a surge-damaged control board tripping out.
Safe things to check first
Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.
- 1Make sure the plug is seated and the outlet still has power. Try a lamp in the same receptacle.
- 2Look at the door gasket for cracks, or a spot where a dollar bill slides out with no drag.
- 3Check the temperature dial or the control board setting, in case a bump or a cleaning shifted it.
- 4Pull the unit out and see whether the condenser coils are packed with clay dust, lint, or pet hair.

What homeowners say after the visit
“The tech ruled out the expensive part first instead of starting with it. That earned my trust.”
Kate V.Birmingham, AL“Gas smell had me nervous. They treated it as urgent, checked the valve, tightened the fitting, tested everything twice.”
Doug M.Newport News, VA“Refrigerator was warm on top, freezing below. Defrost timer swapped, groceries saved.”
Nina C.Springfield, MOFreezer Repair — quick answers
How cold should my freezer actually be?
Around zero degrees Fahrenheit is the target. A few degrees above that and food quality slips fast. Set a thermometer between packages, not on a shelf lip, and read it after several hours with the door closed.
Can I save the food while you're on the way?
Keep the door shut. A full freezer holds cold longer than a half-empty one. Throw loose towels over the top of the load if you can, and move anything already thawed to a cooler with ice.
Why does frost keep building up on one side?
Frost that comes back points to defrost trouble, or humid air sneaking in. A torn gasket, a door out of alignment, or a heater that no longer cycles will rebuild that ice within days of you scraping it out.
Is a standalone chest freezer worth fixing?
Often yes. Chest models are simple, mostly a thermostat, relay, fan, gasket, and compressor. When the sealed system is intact, the repair is straightforward. We test before we recommend anything, so you're not guessing about a cabinet that may have years left.
Did the storm outage break it?
It can. Surges and brownouts hit control boards and start components hardest. A freezer that ran fine before the lights flickered and won't restart afterward usually has an electrical fault, not a mechanical one.
Do you work on garage and basement freezers?
We do. Units in unconditioned space fight swings in temperature and humidity, and that wears on gaskets, drains, and thermostats. Tell us where yours sits when you call us so we bring the right parts.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call us or fill out the form and tell us what you hear, smell, or see. Buzzing, leaking, no heat. Plain talk is fine. We'll ask a few questions and set a visit window.
- Step 2
We come look
A technician shows up in the window, pulls the unit out, and tests it. No guessing games. We explain what failed and why, in words that make sense on your back porch.
- Step 3
We fix it
Common parts ride with us, so a lot of repairs finish on that first visit. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you plainly and set the return date before we pull out of your driveway.

Why homeowners call us
- Storm-season surge damageLightning and blinking power hurt control boards. You get an oven that lights up but won't heat, or a washer that quits mid-cycle. We test boards and wiring before we replace anything, so you know what the surge actually took out.
- Clay dust and lintRed clay dust and lint choke dryer vents and condenser coils. That's where long dry times and a hot laundry room come from, and it's why a fridge runs nonstop. We check airflow every visit, because a clogged vent kills a good machine slowly.
- Straight talk, no runaroundWe tell you what's wrong and what it takes to fix. If a machine is worn past sense, we say that too, and you decide. No pressure and no jargon. We don't dress up an upsell as advice.
- Independent and localWe're a Nashville crew, not a call center. As an independent shop we repair all major brands. Call us and you get a real person, somebody who knows the roads we drive.
- All major brands, gas & electricIndependent service on Whirlpool, LG, Samsung, GE, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid and the rest.
- Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
